Volkswagen kicks another epic 'own goal', plus other brand PR fails
Volkswagen PR is the gift that just keeps on giving. It’s time to laugh at some of the funniest recent company branding fails, including one big automotive PR stuff-up of recent times... Can you guess which brand it is and what they did?
I’m pretty sure someone should have seen what was going on here, but apparently not at all. This went straight through to the keeper and got disseminated into the public. And here we all are, full of self-amuse over it. Thanks, Volkswagen.
The official Instagram handle of Volkswagen Italy is hard to ignore. When some people see this they see ‘Volkswagen Italia’ and when others see this they see ‘Volkswagen genitalia’. I think you can tell which camp I'm in. It just jumped off the page.
This is emblematic of what I would call the satire threshold of reality.
It’s almost as bad as that Mexican hail cannon fiasco or experimenting on monkeys with carbon dioxide gas. Remember that? Clean diesel was another botched marketing strategy for Volkswagen, and we all know how that turned out.
But can you think of arguably the worst automotive PR failure since the COVID era? Get those mental gears working and watch the full report where I’ll show you the data that highlights just how badly a carmaker can get this stuff wrong.
