Do you think the Hyundai Santa Fe would be a better vehicle or on par with Kia Sorento or do you have any other suggestions for me to look at? I thought I'd decided the Sorento but hadn't looked closely at the Santa Fe. I've had two Hyundai used cars previously and have been very happy with them. It's a big decision to spend this amount of money on a vehicle, so I'm hoping to make the right decision.
Thanks again for your help.
Just so we’re on the same page: The main differences here are cosmetic. Hyundai and Kia are two brands owned by the same parent company. Platforms, technology and engineering are shared between similar vehicles, and styling is done independently to differentiate them in the market. They have exactly the same diesel powertrain, so they perform exactly the same.
Hyundai has a five-year warranty; Kia has seven. Kia also has a V6 petrol option. Hyundai does not. The diesel is the best engine in both, for most buyers. Both have the same service costs/intervals.
Hyundai has an optional accessory kit to pump up the tow capacity slightly. Kia doesn’t. (Only of interest for towing something weighing more than one tonne.)
Kia has 90mm (9cm) more length, most of it in the wheelbase - so a little more space in rows two and three. Hyundai has a couple of small additional features, such as the robotic parking system >>
Really, the either is a good call. You’ll probably get slightly more discount on the Kia through the brokerage as well. Kia seems to be aggressively discounting Sorento at the moment.
