I just wanted to thank you for the referral, and congratulate Ben Harris from the brokerage on the excellent deal he negotiated for me on a new Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander. I can't fault his professionalism, customer focus and communication through the process. I purchased my last car through a fleet broker who shall remain unnamed and it wasn't a patch on dealing with Ben. I have several colleagues purchasing new cars in the coming months who I will refer through your site.
On another note I also think your website is refreshing amongst the sea of 'traditional' car review websites. I particularly found your video on 'How to beat the car dealers' truly inspiring. I am in sales of high end, high dollar value products (TV Production equipment) and our industry is notoriously low margin. We have had to move with the times to survive and remain relevant, something you don't see in the traditional car dealerships. It angers me that you walk into a car dealership and are treated like a sucker from the get go. As a salesman its laughable watching these guys try all the old fashioned sales tricks. I guess plenty of folks are taken for a ride and pay what is asked. I'm glad I'm not one of them thanks to your informative website.
Cheers and well done!
Great news. I'm very pleased you got a solid deal on your Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander. Ben's a great operator - and he's got a track record as long as your arm delivering solid results (in particular) on Hyundai Santa Fe.
I also appreciate your comments on the website. After working in magazines on Wheels and Motor, etc., and also contributing to newspapers, and online at Car Advice I basically got sick of working for complete idiots. I decided the only way to step off the path of idiot employment was to do it myself. In particular I don't believe most 'review' websites are buyer-focussed. They exist only to shove advertising down your throat. In other words, the review content is just there to hang advertising off, and that means the reviews can't be critical of the vehicle, because then the advertiser would not want to advertise. At the end of the day it does the intending buyer a disservice.
So I came up with this plan to generate an audience of intending car buyers by producing content specifically for them, that was highly critical of cars (when warranted) instead of just sucking up to car makers so they would advertise. Ben is a key part of that solution because he delivers real savings on the vehicle after I get the advice part of the equation across the line. So it's a simple plan: you talk to me, then you talk to Ben. Result: you buy the right car at the right price.
The car review space online is just as Dickensian as going into a dealership and getting bent over the old-fashioned way (as you noted). I merely wanted to put a system in place that meant you didn't have to endure either having smoke blown up your arse in a dodgy review designed to keep an advertiser happy, and then get violated at a car dealership that's still using tricks and techniques from the 1970s to stitch you up.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to let me know how your experience played out, Andy - and I hope you enjoy several years of great driving in your Santa Fe Highlander - which is one of the best SUVs you can buy.
