Olight Ultra Range: Which Premium Torch Is Right for You?

Olight’s new Ultra range sits at the top end of its torch line-up, aimed at buyers who want more than just a bright light.

These are premium, hard-use torches built around higher-end materials, serious output, rechargeable power and the sort of controls and features designed for people who actually carry and use a torch regularly.

In the video above, I take a close look at the new Ultra family, what separates the different models and which one makes the most sense depending on how you intend to use it.

What is the Olight Ultra range?

The easiest way to think about the Ultra range is as Olight’s premium tier.

Rather than being one single torch design, it covers several different use cases — from compact everyday-carry lights through to larger tactical and general-purpose torches.

That matters because there is no single “best” torch.

A compact EDC torch that disappears into your pocket is solving a completely different problem from a larger light designed for maximum output, long runtime or tactical use.

The Ultra range lets you choose the form factor that suits the job while staying at the premium end of Olight’s offering.

Why spend more on a premium torch?

Cheap LED torches are everywhere, and many of them produce impressive headline lumen figures.

But maximum brightness is only one part of the equation.

A genuinely useful torch also needs to deliver:

  • sensible controls

  • useful beam quality

  • reliable output

  • robust construction

  • decent battery capacity

  • convenient recharging

  • practical size and weight

  • durability when it gets dropped, knocked around or exposed to bad weather

That last point matters more than most people realise.

A torch is one of those tools you often need precisely when conditions are poor. It may live in a vehicle, toolbox, workshop, backpack or pocket for months before suddenly becoming extremely important.

That is where better construction starts to make sense.

Which Olight Ultra should you choose?

Start with the job rather than the specification sheet.

If you want a light you can carry every day, size and convenience are likely to matter more than maximum output.

If the torch is going into a vehicle, workshop or emergency kit, you may be happier accepting extra size in exchange for more runtime and greater output.

And if your priority is tactical-style operation, rapid access to maximum brightness and a tailswitch can become much more important.

The point is not to buy the biggest number.

It is to buy the torch whose controls, size, beam and battery capacity best suit the way you will actually use it.

That is what I work through in the video.

Olight Warrior Ultra: how tough is it really?

One of the most interesting models in the new line-up is the Warrior Ultra.

Rather than simply accepting the durability claims, I decided to test one considerably harder than any sensible owner probably would.

That became a completely separate experiment.

I froze a brand-new Warrior Ultra solid in ice for 72 hours, subjected it to repeated drop tests — including numerous drops beyond its rated test height — and eventually drove over it with the ute.

At that point I finally managed to damage part of it.

Even then, however, the torch retained several important functions.
