Volkswagen Announces Affected Cars in Australia...
...but leaves out Audis from the total
BREAKING NEWS - Volkswagen Australia has announced the number of vehicles in Australia affected by the global diesel scandal.
However, Volkswagen's mind-bending commitment to bullshit continues unabated.
In Volkswagen's official announcement there are four spectacular monuments to corporate bullshit:
1. FICTION:
"VGA is taking action following notification from the head office of the Volkswagen Group that certain diesel vehicles sold in Australia were fitted with software that can affect their emissions during a dynometer test."
FACT:
This software does not affect the emissions of the vehicle during a dynamometer (emissions) test. In fact, that's the only place where the emissions are normal. Legal. Allowed. The software affects the emissions when the vehicles are used on the road, by causing them to emit up to 40 times the permitted levels of a deadly class of gasses called NOx
Find out how this affects you in my exclusive report: How Volkswagen Betrayed the World >>
2. FICTION:
"VGA met with the relevant government authorities last week to advise them of its strategy in Australia."
FACT:
Volkswagen withdrew its affected vehicles from sale following a meeting, because they are criminally non-compliant with emissions regulations. Volkswagen's description has the roles of the organ grinder and the monkey mixed up...
3. FICTION:
“It is important for customers to note that all affected vehicles remain technically safe and driveable and that we will contact them in time to advise what the next steps are.” - Volkswagen Group Australia managing director John White.
FACT:
Define 'technically safe', you wombats. Is it really 'technically safe' to emit up to 40 times the permitted level of a gas the Australian Government's National Pollution Inventory says cal kill you in high concentrations, can cause severe respiratory irritation and fluid on the lungs in lesser concentrations and which also causes photochemical smog, ground-level ozone and acid rain? Is it just me, or does this statement reek of expedient bullshit?
The affected vehicles are a total of 77,149 vehicles across the Volkswagen and Skoda brands, as follows:
4. FICTION:
Only 77,149 vehicles are affected.
FACT:
Audi is not included in the total. Audi typically sells at a rate of about 35 per cent of Volkswagen passenger cars. This means a number of Audis in the ballpark of 25,000 are also affected.
This means - again, ballpark - slightly under one per cent of passenger cars on Australian roads are emitting up to 40 times the allowed level of a deadly poison. Time for Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss, who heads the Dept. of Infrastructure, to get his arse into gear.
