QUESTION
Hi John,
I'm reaching out to you for your help and guidance please.
I have a 2021 Volkswagen Amarok with 71,000 kilometers, which has been fully serviced at the correct manufacturer's intervals by a Volkswagen dealership.
On Friday the 21/10 on the way home from work, traveling at approximately 70km/h, the vehicle just shut down and a coil light symbol came up on the dash. The vehicle was then towed to Rex Gorrell Volkswagen in Geelong.
The service manager advised me that the fuel pump is detonated causing fragments to travel through the entire fuel system, and it's also in the manifold. He advised me that Volkswagen Australia has rejected this as a warranty claim as they believe it's due to fuel contamination - and the dealership needs to treat this as a retail repair, which they have quoted me between $20,000-$21,000.
And Rex Gorrell advised me yesterday that we can obtain a fuel test, however it will be at my cost, which I have agreed to as I'm at a total loss as to how to move forward. The service manager has advised me that he cannot leave my car up on the hoist.
I only use Shell service stations as I have a fuel card which is restricted to diesel only. I've never experienced any performance issues to date, hence not agreeing to fuel contamination.
There have been no other dashboard warning lights prior to the vehicle shutting down.
Thanks for your help.
