Should I buy the Toyota Yaris Cross or Corolla?
QUESTION
Hi John,
I would like to know if you have reviewed this model (Toyota Yaris Cross GX Auto 2WD Hybrid) and, as the price is somewhat close to the Corolla Ascent Sport Hybrid Auto (indicative drive away $31298 vs $32960 on Carsales site), I wanted to know your thoughts on the Yaris Cross. Is it is worth paying the extra?
Thank you,
Chris.

ANSWER
Hello Chris,
Thank you for your Yaris Cross Vs Corolla hybrid enquiry.
Okay, so Yaris Cross is slightly newer and therefore has slightly more recent tech (I mean fundamental design tech, not ‘infotainment system’).
But it’s a smaller vehicle than a Corolla, because it’s based on a Yaris.
It is, however, an SUV body and these are more fashionable, so carmakers charge more for them.
Corolla is slightly bigger, has a slightly bigger ICE, and a slightly smaller hybrid motor. Yaris Cross goes slightly better, by virtue of its lower mass, mainly - but the differences are slight (as is the difference in price).
Therefore, personal preference is a bigger determining factor in this choice than some tangible, objective difference between the vehicles themselves - they’re objectively very similar.
We’ll call you to discuss pricing and availability.
Hope this helps,
JC

The ASX is a small SUV for a budget conscious buyers who need excellent value, good equipment levels and enough space to get all the small jobs done. ASX won’t do everything, but it’ll certainly do its fair share of family duties.
