Should I Buy a Mazda CX-3 or Toyota Corolla?
We are looking to purchase either a Mazda CX-3 Maxx or a Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport. The dealer price at the moment is $23,990 on the Corolla, which is down from the usual price of $27,000. We have been told the dealer can't go any lower on price but after watching your Rip-Off video, I'm not sure if that's correct. The Mazda CX-3 Maxx is $27,400 and once again, the dealer has said the price isn't negotiable. What do you recommend?
I haven’t bothered to review the Corolla. It’s the same price as the Mazda3 >> - a far better car to drive and own. Corolla is like taking two Valiums and wondering why the world is going slow. It also needs to be serviced twice as often and has inferior tech.
CX-3 isn’t comparable to Corolla. Mazda3 is the direct competitor. CX-3 is built on the smaller Mazda2 >> platform and is quite cramped in terms of rear luggage space with the second seating row deployed and operational. So, I think it’s always good to get it down to the kind of car you want (SUV or car) and then shop among direct competitors for this.
Frankly, and without wanting to offend, reading in between the lines of your message I think you are making every rookie mistake there is on the price front. (A $3k saving on a Corolla is probably as low as it goes.) FYI the recommended drive-away price of the CX-3 Maxx 2WD petrol is $27,322 in WA. To suggest this is non-negotiable is farcical. Don’t ask at the dealership if the price is negotiable. If you do, the obvious salesman answer is ‘no’ because: Maximum profit. Mazdas discount quite well, in my experience. You need to channel your inner hardcase if you want commercial success in this environment. The guy selling you the car is doing it all day long, every day. Food for thought. You need to pitch a low offer and walk if it is initially rejected.
