How it works 

My car buying services insulate you from entrenched dealership rip-offs

We do our best to negotiate a strong discount on the purchase price, as well as insulating you from the more insidious dealership rip-offs:

Visiting a dealership opens the door to all these traps, and using by car-buying services insulates you from all of it. All you need to do is decide what car you want, take a test drive to confirm it’s right for you, and we’ll do the rest. We’ll even organise the test drive for you if you want.

First up: Unfortunately, if you are not located in Australia I cannot help you. However if you are overseas and planning on moving to Australia I can assist. Feel free to enquire from overseas in that case. We can arrange a car for you and work to make it available when you arrive (subject to availability).

How this all works: You fill in the form, we ring you, and we shop around for the best deal we can find. 

WE BUY A LOT OF CARS

We buy a few thousand new cars every year, all around the country, and that buying power allows us to drive the price down. It’s that simple - plus knowing the rules of the game, and of course who to call for this and that.

DO YOU PAY A FEE?

No. We pass the savings onto you, and we do not charge you a fee. If you buy a car through us, we charge the dealer for finding your sale, which for him is cheaper than advertising.

DO YOU GET THE FULL WARRANTY?

Yes. If you go ahead - and there’s no obligation, until (of course) you sign a standard contract with the dealer - you get a brand-new car with the full factory warranty, no strings attached.

BRANDS

If you’ve seen my reports you’ll know I’m pretty definite about the brands I recommend and those I do not. But if you want one of the brands I don’t recommend - don’t stress about it. I’m happy to help you with that. It’s your cash, and your preference is really the only thing that matters - it’s your money, and therefore your choice.

If you ask me for advice, I’ll tell you exactly what I think of your choice. But the decision is entirely yours.

It’s difficult for us to deal with some brands that do not operate dealers in the conventional way - such as Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Honda, BYD and Polestar. We can assist with finance on these brands (see below).

WHAT IF YOU DON’T SOURCE THE CAR FROM MY LOCAL DEALER?

There’s no stress about warranty or servicing.

If there’s a warranty issue or recalls down the track, any dealer can handle that kind of thing. Just like servicing. Carmakers pay dealers to do all warranty and recall work - so they’re not doing anyone a favour, and it’s hardly charity. Warranty and recalls are a moneymaker for car dealers.

Likewise, servicing is also very profitable business, so every authorised dealer in your area will be overjoyed to service your new car, irrespective of where you purchased it. Don’t stress about approaching another dealer for the servicing: There’s nothing Dealer B would like more than to poach the servicing business for any car purchased across town, from Dealer A. That’s an instant win, and a moneymaker for Dealer B. They’ll be overjoyed.

WE INSULATE YOU FROM UNDERHANDED DEALER BEHAVIOUR

One of the less obvious things I do is insulate you from underhanded dealership profiteering. All those markups on all those products and services - in-house finance, insurance, paint protection, useless extended warranties, all the stuff noted above...

If you are face-to-face with a new car salesperson at a dealership, it’s typically the death of a thousand cuts - $500 profit here, $1000 there - all cream on top of the new car price. We short-circuit that ‘out of control’ profiteering spiral on the showroom floor, which saves you cash, time … and stress.

We can also assist with your trade-in and finance, but our main focus is finding you the right new car, efficiently and at the best possible price

When you fill in the new car enquiry form above you’ll get an e-mail from me, and we call you. No obligation. If there’s any problems after that, reply to that e-mail and I’ll sort it out. (It might take a while for us to send you that e-mail - like, a couple of hours - because an actual human has to review your enquiry, and this is done in batches.)

WHAT ABOUT YOUR OLD CAR?

Yes, we can help you with a trade-in. We have access to a range of wholesalers and it’s easy for us to get you a good price on your outgoing car. Private sale can be a pain - and if you’re (say) a senior person living alone - it can be somewhat risky, selling privately, effectively inviting a conga line of complete strangers to come over, view your old car and (potentially) case the house. So you’d want to think carefully about the risks involved with selling privately in some circumstances.

FINANCE OR CASH?

We can also help you with finance, but that’s completely up to you. Or you can pay cash - that’s entirely up to you. On finance, we do everything from straight-up conventional car loans to specialised finance products like chattel mortgages and novated leases. 

NOVATED LEASES

Novated leases (also called ‘salary sacrifice’) are a specialised thing, and we have a specialised novated lease team. They’re especially popular right now because of the federal government incentives on EVs and PHEVs - a novated lease is now the cheapest way to own one of these low-emissions vehicles, for many ordinary Australians on a salary.

You should of course always speak with your accountant or other trusted financial adviser to determine what kind of finance is right for you. The details really matter, and you need to get this right. Access my novated lease resources here.

Unfortunately, for may people, buying a new car is a very stressful activity full of tricks and traps

WHAT CAN’T WE HELP YOU WITH? 

There are, of course, some things I cannot help you with: I don’t get involved buying dealer demonstrators - they’re too risky, and the savings generally aren’t there. Nor do I do used cars. (Used cars are too complex.)
