Should I buy the Holden Cruze?

QUESTION

Hi John,

Just would like to know what the bad press on Holden Cruze is all about and does it still apply to 2013 models?

Thanks,

Pam

ANSWER

Pam,

The Holden Cruze is a badly designed dog of a car. It’s badly engineered and badly built. Many owners have problems. Holden is right down the bottom of all independent quality/reliability surveys.

Many of the faults persist. (The only faults car companies are required to acknowledge are the safety ones.)

You’re mad if you don’t buy a Mazda3 or a Hyundai i30 (or a Toyota Corolla) instead.

FOLLOW-UP QUESTION

Hi John,

WOW okay maybe I will not buy a Cruze, even though I see lots of them on the road!

How about a Pulsar?   Have had a 2002 model since new, never had a problem and it is still good but I just want to update while I have the money.

ANSWER

Pam,

"Mad if you don't buy a Mazda3 or a Hyundai i30 or a Toyota Corolla." Means 'mad'. As in, certifiable. Not. A. Pulsar.

These cars are the same size as a Cruze.

If you want a slightly smaller car, try a Kia Rio. Also absolutely brilliant.
