I am in the market for an SUV for a growing family. I have a 2.5 year old who soon will need a booster seat and potentially having another baby in the next year or so. I need an SUV that will be suitable for an elderly lady and two yound adults + 1 child + baby.
What I have looked at so far:
- NISSAN X-TRAIL: Cant justify the cost for its build quality, especially cabin
- TOYOTA RAV4: Just horrible quality compared to other cars in its class
- JEEP CHEROKEE: Loved it to be honest however not sure if the v6 will put a hole in the pocket in the long run
- KIA SPORTAGE: Didn't like the blind spots when looking back. Plus small boot size
Basically I am open to whatever, however I don't want to go over the $40K mark. The Jeep has won my heart but I am going to test drive one tomorrow. I am kind of lost as to what I can look at that will suit my needs. Your help would be appreciated.
Kind regards, Sakin
I'm inferring from this that five seats is all you need. There are a huge number of five-seat SUVs in the market - probably something like 30 different vehicles - and it's easy to be confounded by choice.
Of the vehicles you listed I don't rate the RAV4, and I have serious questions about the reliability of the Jeep Cherokee. ACCC Chairman Rod Sims just admitted that, as a proportion of the number of vehicles sold, the ACCC gets more complaints about Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (the Jeep importer) than any other carmaker in Australia. Nissan X-TRAIL is - at best - OK. I'd call it adequate at everything, but there are some funny quirks to its model specification. (Such as not being able to get a seven-seater with AWD.) Check my Nissan X-TRAIL review >> You might also take a look at the Mitsubishi Outlander, which is a direct competitor to the X-TRAIL. Here's my Mitsubishi Outlander review >>
Kia Sportage is largely up against the new Hyundai Tucson, which in my view is one of the best SUVs you can buy. The Tucson has only just been released, and I just posted my Tucson video review >>
The final vehicle you should consider is the Mazda CX-5. It is a very good SUV and I have a CX-5 review here >>
If it were my money, I would be spending it on either the new Hyundai Tucson or the Mazda CX-5.
I hope this helps.
